THE NEWTON EAST FLOGGING CASE.

INQUIRY TO BE HELD.

Although there are evidently to be no proceedings for assault instituted in connection with the caning of the girl Kate Sheard at Newton East School, the matter has not been allowed altogether to drop. An inquiry, which is to be open to the press, has been arranged to take place at the schoolroom on Friday evening next, when the Newton School Committee will take evidence on the subject, and express their opinion on the whole question. This inquiry has, we understand, been agreed to at the request of Rev. Mr Coates, and the holding of it thus publicly should do much to restore the coniidence of parents in the management of Newton East School.
