The following are the final acceptances ■or the V.R.C. Derby :— '

Mr W. Gannon's br c Australian Peer, by Darebin—Stockdove Mr Harvey's eh c Pakeha, by The Englishman—True Blue Mr Mitchelpon's b c Tranter, by Musket— Pangawerewere* Mr Mitchelson's bl c Whakawai, by Leo linus —Lure Mr Coffey'a br c Jebusite, by Darriwell—. Tyropean Mr Cooper's b c Niagara, by Anteros— Frailty Hon. J. White's eh c Abercorn, by Chester —Cinnamon Hon. J. White's br f Lava, by ChesterEtna Hon. W. Robinson's br c Enfilade, by Mus- - ket-^.Onyx '-■' -'"*"*

The V.R.C. Derby has not presented such an open aspect for several years and, a splendid race will be seen at Flemington to-day. Abercorn has the position of first favourite at odda on and the betting on the Derby can always be taken as a good gauge of the chances of the various horses. Lava is in the'race evidently to make the pace for. Abercorn, and is not likely to be m the finish, while Whakawai will probably be Tranter's attendant. All the others have been backed.to win considerable sums for their stables. Australian Peer ran third in the A.J.C. Derby, and finished behind Cranbrook in the Maiden Stakes at Caulfield, but he has evidently improved. Enfilade, as Nordenfeldt's own brother, commands respect, and will run a great race. Jebusite, though a strong tip, ran badly as a two-year-old, and has not appeared this year. Niagara and Tranter, as New Zealanders, are carefully watched by the public here, and the victory of either will not surprise the public, though Niagara has been reported as being off colour ; but the fact of his starting will, I fancy, be sufficient guarantee of his soundness. Abercorn on his performances certainly deserves most support, and I think the- favourite will not be far out of the finish. I will, however, plump for Niagara, as I have every confidence in the son of Aafcejcos doing credit to his stable. Abercorn and Tranter should be the runners up.
