Onehunga.
The fortnightly meeting of tlie Council was held last night. Present:— The Mayor (Dr. W. G. Scott), Councillors Jackson, Wilson, Keehan, Hills, Tapp, Sheldrick, Hill, and Rowe. — The following letters were read : — From the Auditor-General, informing the Council that Mr George Fraser, of Auckland, was appointed as auditor to examine the Borough Council accounts. From Mr S. Bright, giving up possession of claim of lease of Allen's Springs Reserves. From Mr Gilliland, requesting permission to erect a small building on an allotment next to the Library, on the Market Reserve,' for the purpose of a news agency office : Referred to Reserves Committee. — A number of accounts were passed for payment. Cr. Wilson gave notice to move afc the next meeting of the Council: "That as the Council has set a precedent in the ipatter, all accounts hitherto ordered to be held over for payment, pending the waterworks account being in funds, be paid forthwith out of ordinary funds of the Borough." Councillor Jackson, in speaking to his notice of motion given last meeting re the R.M. Court sitting only once a month and urging the Minister of Justice to have weekly sittings, explained the necessity of having his resolution carried, owing to the inconvenience to the public under the present system and the advantages to be derived by having the R.M. Court sittings weekly. Seconded by Councillor Sheldrick, who supported Cr. Jackson's remarks on the matter. The Mayor had much pleasure in supporting Councillor Jackson's notice of motion, and considered thab Onehunga was quite entitled to havo a Resident Magistrate's Court weekly. The motion as follows was then put and carried, " That the attention of the, Hon. the Minister of Justice be called to the very great loss and inconvenience to which the residents of this borough and the neighbourhood are put by the infrequent sittings of the R.M. Court, and this Council urges the necessity of a return to the former practice of holding weekly sittings. "—Cr. Sheldrick's notice of motion re Committee's statement of waterworks to solicitors for opinion, was lost. — Cr. Keehan's notice of motion for a handcart for use of borough was also lost.—Cr. Tapp gave notice to move, ab next meeting, "That office furniture be provided for the reporters attending the meetings of Council."—Cr. Wilson gave notice to move, " That the motion.standing on the books of the Council with reference to the erection of a bathing place within the borough limits be rescinded, and that the question of providing bathing accommodation and fixing a site for such purpose be referred to the Reserves Committee to report at next meeting of Council." The Council then adjourned till Monday.
