POPULAR ENTERTAINMENT.
One of the capital winter entertainments at St. Sepulchre's Schoolroom was given last night toadensely-packcdaudience. Thefirst part of the programme consisted of musical and vocal selections ; the second a well got-up scene from "Pickwick Papers," Bardell v. Pickwick. In tho first part Mrs Micklethwait, Mrs Glover, Miss Bleazard, Mrs Duthie, and Mr A. L. Edwards, Dr. Cobbett, and Heir Schmitt took part, all being enthusiastically received by the audience. The " AIJ» Stella Confidente" by Robande, given by Miss Bleazard, with piano accompaniament by Mrs Duthie and violin obligate by Herr Schmitt, was the gem of the evening ; the next being " Les Huguenots" (piano, Mrs Duthie; violin, Herr Schmitt). In the second part, Mr G. P. Pierce made a capital phief Justice Stareleigh (by-the-bye, only a few people perhaos are aware that the Vicinal of this character was Mr Justice Wzelie), and Mr E. Harker the immortal I\v Pickwick. Mr H. Walpole, although at the right size for Sam Weller, made a coital Sammy. But the best characters \V['re Mr E. P. Hudson as Mrs Bardell and M Hillyer as Mr Winkle, both being studies that Barnard himself might have tain for his "Dickens's Illustrated." Mlsrs T. L. White (Buzfuz) and C. Puroha (Skimpin) were also good,, while Mater H. Pierce was capital in his! small part of Master Bardell. Thlo was a show last night of histrionic talent that Auckland may well be proud of, andfvo hopo that the next entertainment Wilr|e given in a larger hall, where more can fco the fun.
