English Royalty.
(To the Editor.) Sib,—Kindly allow mo to say a word in reply to your correspondent, " J. H.C.," re above. Ho endeavours to prove that Royalty costs only 5d or 3d per head in England, although, of course, no does not dispute the amount of the aggregate sum, which is great. Supposing his contention to be correct, there is no justification for the present royal extravagance. Anyone regrets a lost 5d more than a Avell-spont £5. "J.H.C." seems as though ho wore disposed to sneer at the cost of Iβ per head for the support of our New Zealand legislators. All I can say to this is, that faulty as some of them may be, they usually better earn their L2OO per annum than the Queen her L 808,316. Sevoral Presidents of Prance and America havo done far more for thoir respective countries than Victoria has for hers, and havo received far less pecuniary reward.— Yours, otc, J.G.C.
