MENTS IN AUCKLAND.

Thanksgiving services will be general thronghoub the city and suburban churches to-morrow, and in addition to the religious meeting to be held in the City Hall on Tuesday next, the Weeleyan body announce special ser. vices on that day in the Pitt-street Church. The Industrial Exhibition will be opened on Tuesday and as already mentioned is sure to be a source of great attraction. In addition there are a number of entertainments announced for the Jubilee holidays, which should provide the public with excellent means of "jubilating " to their heart's content, i Sacred Concert To-morrow The concert at the City Hall to-morrow afternoon, by Mr Pooley's choir, will be under the patronage of Colonel Lyon and officers of the district, arid promises to be a brilliant gathering. The programme in another column is of the usual high class nature, and includes the chorus from the Messiah " Glory to God in the Highest." tha motto adopted by .Her Majesty for the Jubilee. The combined Garrison Bands will give as a finale " God Save the Queen," and the audience are expected to join the Choir in its rendering, the whole to be under the baton of Mr Pooley. Those attending, would do well to cut the programme out of' the Stab, and provide themselves with the words of the National Anthem. Jubilee Temperance Festival. Full particulars of the United temperance demonstrations arranged for Monday and Tuesday next appear in our adertising colums to-day. A promenade concert in the Choral Hall on Monday evening is to open the proceedings, and a most attractive programme is announced for it. During the evening Mr R. S. Barry will recite the prize temperance poem, and Lady Pox will make the presentation of prizes. Rev. T. ' Spurgeon and others will give addresses, while St. Jame's choir will render selections from " Britannia and her Daughters." On the following morning (Tuesday next) the breakfast for all well-wishers of the cause will be held at Robson's Rooms at halfpast eight a,m. Immediately after breakfast a conference will be held, when Mr G. B. Lilly will open the proceedings by an address on " The future of the Temperance Cause," and will be followed by Rev. G. B. Monro after which the conference will be an open one. The whole of the temperance organisations are uniting in this demonstrations, which should prove not only a means of showing their loyalty, but also of cementing friendship and good feeling. Jubilee Opera Programme. To give the public an opportunity of seeing the illuminations, the performance by the Royal Comic Opera Company at Abbotts Opera House will not commence until halfpast eight on Monday and Tuesday evenings, and on the latter occasions the full company will sing the National Anthem. For the convenience of country visitors and others, a different opera will be performed on each of the first four days of the week, Thursday having been fixed for the production of the "Pirates of Penzance." On Monday night the " Mikado." will be prepared, "Manthe" on Tuesday and " Patience on Wednesday. Another feature of the holiday arrangements is that there are to be family stalls at 2s.—a most popular idea and which should be acceptable as a Jubilee offering by the Company. The Opera House is sure to be largely patronised by country visitors during the ensuing week especially as late trains have been arranged for. ; Demonstration, at Newmarket This plucky little suburb borough has resolved upon having a Jubilee demonstration of its owh on Monday night. There is to be a torchlight procession in which the local band and fire brigade will join, and there will be general illuminations and a display of fireworks. Mr Suiter, Mayor of the borough, and other leading residents have agreed to provide refreshments to the processionists. Jubilee Minstrels Tonight.

The City Hall will be opened by the Jubilee Minstrels to-night with the first of a series of three variety entertainments, for which special replete with novelty and funnyism have been prepared. There are no less than 17 capable performers, and of these four are " end " men. The Minstrels come before the public provided with new songs, dances, farces, and " goaks "of local application. On Monday night there will be a grand display of fireworks outside the Hall, preceded at 7 o'clock by the liberation of a fire balloon. The prices of admission, viz., 3s, 2s and Is, should suit all pockets. The Fancy Dress Ball. From the numerous ■ advertisements that appear in print re fancy dresses for the ball there should be a general display of costumes at the City Hall Jubilee fancy dress ball on Tuesday evening. We are, however, requested to state that fancy dress will not be d& riyuzur, but that visiters, if they choose, may wear evening dress. Excursions Wanted. A great many people want to know how. they can amuse theniselves on Jubilee Day, for beyond excursion trains at s Saturday return fares, and a three days' trip to visit White Island in the Chelmsford, little or nothing' is ' announced. What is wanted is a' cheap steamboat excursion trip or. two, starting at about 10 a.m. and returning about 5 p.m., and there is little doubt that if the weather proved fine either Kawau, Motutapu, or .Waiwera would be very largely patronised. Burns Clul> " Social." The Jubilee social gathering and ball in connection with Auckland Burns Club to be held in the Masonic Hall Newton, on Moriday evening next, promises to be highly successful. .Mr D, B. McDonald will give the opening address, and songs and recitations are expected from Mrs Wright, Mrs Heighway, Misses Smith, Moncur, MpMillan and Glover and Messrs Menzies, Guthrie, Carter, Robertson, and Pitkeithley. In, the ball which is to take place, Mr Jas. Stewart, C.E., will act as Master of Ceremonies, and Mr Leslie is to cater for refreshments, i On the ball programme are one or two of the old-fashioned contre-daiises' and Scotch reels so seldom seen here. Other Entertainments. These include the burlesque and pantomime now. being performed at theAgricul tural Hall; Major Dane's lecture at the Young Men's Christian Association Rooms on Monday night, and the Hobson Rifle's ball. The latter event takes place in the Forester's Hall on Monday evening, and'is to be under the patronage of Colonel Lyons and other officers. ■ Free Jubilee; Dinner, etc. The poor are not to be neglected while other people, are rejoicing, and-all who can procure empty kits are assured of getting them filled with material for' a' hearty Jubilee dinner. From 11 a.m. on Monday, meat, bread, flour, beef, fish, and fruit will be distribute:! free to deserving applicant at a shop in.Customs-street, opposite the Waitemata Hotel.
