Sheep Department.
Tho Colonial Secretary goes South in a few days to direct and confer with the Sheep Inepectors in view of organising, the Sheep Department. Antimony Mining. Messrs W. and B. Cowan,' of Glasgow, metal founderß, write that they have used several tons of Endeavour Inlet antimony, and find it of excellent quality.' They hopo to be able to receive a regular supply. Some alterations have bean recently made in the furnaces at the wcrks, which will enable a - much greater quan ity of ore to be smelted. The refined meta1 realises tho higbe3t price in the English market.
Defective Lift.
Owing to the late fatal accident with tho ■lift in Hayman and Co.'s bond, other firms' have been testing their lilts"to ascertain ,how the brakes act. In several instances they proved quite useless. Turnbull-and Co.'a lift went thundering ;down with 22cwt, although the brakes were supposed to check it with 30 cwt. Nathan and Co.'s lift also went down, despite tho brakes, but Johnston and Co.'a brake acted perfectly. The " Post" urges a thorough inspection of all lifts, and that the Government should prepare specifications of an efficient brake, which should be insisted on in all cases. A Scene In. Court. In the R.M. Court on Saturday, Sir Jellicoe accused Mr Wardell, K.M., of Beeing litigants in his-private room" before cases were heard; 'Mr'Wardell eaid he often did bo, and gave them good advice, Mr Jellicoe retorted that ne was there both as adviser and judge. Mr Wardell said the insinuation wasa'disgraceful one, and if he was not above suspicion in this respect, he was unfit for his' position. He:would continue to give advice T^H'ere he thqjjght it j would do goad and 'end litigation. Tho ' Bcene was a pietty vrmm one.
