The Volunteers here are complaining that while an opportunity has been given all round the colony for testing. Auckland ammunition, none is being sent to where some of the beat; shots in the colony reside.
Capt. Somerville leaves for Cbristchurch, to attend the N.Z. Rifle Association meeting, in ten days.
Capt. H. A. Hom'ir has been appointed adjutant of the first regiment of Cavalry, North Island.
Action by a Mother for Maintenance. An interesting point" was raised itL the B.M. Court on Friday morning in a case brought by Mrs Higgie, an old settler, against her son for refusing to support her. It came out that she had an interest in a property worth £27 a year, and which ebe could cell for £150. The son contended she was not destitute till that £150 had been spent. The K. M. remarked : that the action was not creditable for a Eon, and he was sorry, for the old lady had always been highly respected bnt he, could not conclude she was destitute so long as ehe had property valued at £150.
