An English Cricket Team to Visit the Colonies.
Mr A. M. Bealk, Secrotary of the Auckland Cricket Association, has received the following letter having reference to the proposed tour of the colonios by an English cricket team :—•' Melbourne, August ISth ISSIi. Dear Sir, —Messrs Lillywhito, Shaw, and Shrewsbury having determined to bring out a team of cricketers to the colonies during the ensuing season, I beg to mako application on their behalf, ia the capacity of agent, for tbe use of your ground, for one match. I am not in a position to suggest dates for tho match in question, net having arranged my programme of fixtures, You may, however, expect to hear from me shortly on the subject. When fixing your terms, I trust your Committeo will meet my application in a liberal spirit. Tho team as at present constituted is a very powerful one, including Briggs, Bates, Barnes, Shrewsbury, Guun, Flowers, fohmann, Show, Scotton, with Messrs Roller, Wright, and Kemp. This I think you will admit a very strong combination ; in fact, it may almost be regarded as an All-England Eleven. I shall be glad if you will let me know how many members thero aro on tho roll, and also whethor your bar is leased or in your own hands. Awaiting tho favour of an oarly reply,—l am, yours faithfully, John P. TennjVnt. To tho Hon. Secretary Auckland C.C., N6W Zealand." This letter will be considered at a meeting of the Auckland Cricket Association to be held at an early date.
