City Council Notices of Motion.
No^icu has been given of tbe following motions for the next Council meeting :—
By Cr. Atkin : " That the Engineer be instructed to give an approximate estimate of cost of cutting down Queen-street to the permanent level between Karangahape Kpad and Alexandra-street."
By Cr. (Joldie—" That, considering the state of the Corporation finances, and the necessity for retrenchment, a special committee be appointed to investigate and report on the expenditure connected with the Town Clerk's and City Surveyor's Departments, showing whether a saving could be mode by a reduction in the number and ?alnries of officials, or in any way the Committee may recommend, said Committee to consist of Hia Worship the Mayor, Crp. t.a Roche, Devore, Buchanan, Crqtvthor, Garratt and the mover." By Cr. Dayies : " That the Karangnhape Ward members be instructed to inquire and report to thia Council as Roon as possible the probable cost of sufficient land required to continue Upper Queen-street into Newton Road."
