Another insurgent leader, Bdhcho, baa d strong body of men between Myingyan and Pagan, and is harrying the country. He has Tooted and burned near Pagan several villages which had submitted to us. On the Upper Clilndwin, HJao, who heads the insurgents In that district, has a considerable following. Captain Raikc* holds a strong stockaded position at Kendat, and our force at Tummoo, higher up tho Chidwin, is,also safe.

The oountry, about Mandalay is very disturbed; The flotilla steamer, Kadoe, whilst descending tho Myiltuge, was fired oh by insurgents, and o»e of the Sepoy guard Was wbunded. Tho Prince holds the country to the last south east of Mandalay, and bis forceß , are said to bo increasing. Until the Myontzein Prince is cdptiirod or driven from tho field there is no prospect of a pacification of Upper Burmah. All tho other insurgent leaders profess to bo fightinsr in his interest, Much surprise is felt that more vigorous measures have not Been taken againßt tbe Princo. In Lower Burmah the hills between Tounghoo and Prome are ocoupied by larso gangß of Dacoits. Karen lovios will bb sent against them, both from Tounghoo and Prome. Only Karens can travel in the hills in tbis season. The Myentaoln Princo has issued a proclamation offering 2,000 rupies for Sir C. Bernard's head. General White, while tiding through Mandalay, accompahied by two officers, has been fired at from a houso, and tbe intending assassin escaped. Owing to threats that Mandalay would bo attacked by the Myentzcin Prince's men, aud that the public buildings would bo burned, the court houee and othor public buildings havo been garrisoned by tbo Hampshire Regiment, and tbo streets are strongly patrolled at night. On sth July, Major Skene, advancing from Tbonsagwa to attack the Choungwn Princes, two minor Alomnia pretenders suddenly came on the princos, and captured 130 men, of whom 40 had muskets. Tho princes escaped.

As soon as the rains aro ovor two additional regiments of cavalry will be sont from India to Burmah. With those and tho three additional regiments of infantry expected, tho troops in Uppor Burmah and tho armed police will reach a total of 30,000 mon. It is not belioved that tho insurgents actually in arms in the Upper Province number 20,000. General Whito, although enjoying the local and temporary rank of Major-General, is the junior colonel in Upper Burmab. Ho has three brigadiers under him, and commands tho largest forco that has ever been entrusted to an officer of his rank. Owing to the large dimensions which the Burmah force has now reached, it is believed that'some general who has already commanded in tho field will bo appointed to the chief command The names of Sir Evelyn Wood und of Goneral Brackenbury have been favourably received.
