Ho stated that woro an embankment put out in a diagonal direction from the Shortland sidoof Curtis's Wharf tonoarly the end of Goodß Wharf, and continued from thence on tho northorn sido to tho Moanataiari mullock tip, it would havo tho effect dt causing a sufficient scour to keep tho harbour freo from mud, by preventing it from settling. It w>?B proposod that the embankment should bo of considerable width, in order that it might be utilised for vessels discharging their cargo thereon, as the water would bo of eufliciont depth to allow of their lying alongside. The quantity of water which tho area would hold waa computed to be about 04,000 tons, which could bo let out by means of flood-gates at low water, and would havo tho clToct of causing an additional scour.
