Thames, this day.—At a mooting of tho Harbour Board held yesterday afternoon, a schomo fcr improving tho harbour was presented by Mr R. N. Smith. Ho stated that woro an embankment put out in a diagonal direction from the Shortland sidoof Curtis's Wharf tonoarly the end of Goodß Wharf, and continued from thence on tho northorn sido to tho Moanataiari mullock tip, it would havo tho effect dt causing a sufficient scour to keep tho harbour freo from mud, by preventing it from settling. It w>?B proposod that the embankment should bo of considerable width, in order that it might be utilised for vessels discharging their cargo thereon, as the water would bo of eufliciont depth to allow of their lying alongside. The quantity of water which tho area would hold waa computed to be about 04,000 tons, which could bo let out by means of flood-gates at low water, and would havo tho clToct of causing an additional scour. It was docidod to refor tho matter to tho General Purposes Committee to report on.

New Plymouth, this day.—The Wesleyan Conference evangelistic mission, conducted by Rev..l. S. Smalloy and Mesdarnes Smalloy and Donald, came to a successful close last evening by a temperance demonstration, with procession and out-dooraddresses. Trio church waa afterwards crowded, and 300 blue ribbons were donned, moro than one half being new pledges.
