A Battery Artillery,
Tin; ordinary weekly drill of the abovo company was hold last night, when, notwithstanding tho wet, thore was a fair muator. Sergeant-Major Aneoll put the men through a course of drill in dismounting, and othor movomonts for about two hours. Wairoa South Rifles. On Thursday night f he abovo corps met in Public Hull for quarterly inspection parade. Cuptain Crawford and Lioutenant Creighton were in attendance Major Shepherd was tho inspecting officer, tlo put tho men through position drill, and at its closo treated the men to tho usual compliments as to their soldierly appoaranco and good mustor,
Coromandel Rifles.
Tho anniversary ball and supper of tho above Company was held in Boyd's. Hotel last Wednesday ovening. It was in every way an unqualified success, reflecting credit on ail co-corned. Dancing comiiK-nctd at eight o'clocl-, and continued until a late hour, about thirty couples being on tho floor at ono timo. The room had been tastefully decorated for tho occaesion.
Volunteer Regulations,
Under tho new Order in Council, regulations will be mado for the organisation of the mounted civil police and permanent defence forces of the colony. In the futuro, the civil police will bo recruited from the permanent militia, after having also served threo yoars aa a Volunteer. A Volunteer would require to get into the second class; before ho was entitled to capitation. Tho number of points must in futuro be 32 instoad of 20 Garrison corps must attend IS instead cf 12 drills, aud if within two years a Volunteer doos not pass into the second class, ho will cease to bo a Volunteer.
