I COLLISION OFF NEWCASTLE.
Tho Sohoonor Mary Pashley Bnnk, Newcastle, August 24, Considerable excitement prevailed in th city shortly before six to-night, when it be came known that a vessel had been run int and sunk by a tugboat off Redhead. On arrival in port of the ateamtug Gamecock information was elicited that at a quarter' past 5, when about a mile and a half off Little Rivoi head, the Gamecock ran info the fore-and-aft schooner Mary PashW bound from Sydney to the Nambuocra Kiver. Tho schooner was under full _ a ji and was travelling at the rate of four knots when the collision occurred. Her master Mathias Andrewa, tates that when the collision occurred the schooner was close hauled on the port tack, the wind being north. The Gamecock, which was coins about eight knots, ran into the schooner striking her amidships on the starboard side, and cutting her down about two feat' below waterlino at tho ballast mark. The captain and crow bad just time to launch tho boat and reach the Gamecock before the schooner eank. The captain's and ship's papers wore recovered, but every, thing else belonging to the captain and crew was lost. The Mary Pashley was insured for £1,000 in the South British Insurance Otiice,and recently underwent a thorough overhaul. She is the property of Messrs Pickering and Booth, of Sydney, and of Captain Andrews, who had a third Bhare in her. The Gamecock is uninjuired, with the exception of some slight damage to the stern.
