KARANGAHAPE.
Tho adjourned annual meeting of the Karangahapo Licensing Committeo was held yesterday. Present: —Mr D. Goldie (Chairman), and Messrs Hirst, Morrison, and Wood. Queen's Head Hotel, Mr Thos. Evans, applicant. Mr S. Heskoth in support of tho application for a renewal of licenso. This case had been adjourned for tho purpose of considering certain objections to tho renewal. The objections wero tho house had been badly conducted by tho previous liconsees, and that tho house was not wanted. Mr Hosketh made a strong appeal for the applicant, who would be ruined by tbe loss of the license. He had put the hotel in good condition, and said that the population in the locality had largely increased. Mr Goldie contended the increase of population would bo a a good argument if the drinking population had increased, but last year's return showed that there had been less taken for drink within the colony than during previous yoars, and that there had been a steady increase of temperance, and while there were fower hotols, they must recollect that the hotels were now much larger, affording four times tho accommodation of former licensed houses. The application was refused,
