THE BOOTMAKERS' STRIKE.
An Amicable Arrangement.
The bootmakers' strike, which has now' run about eight weeks, has at last boen ended by an amicable arrangement arrived at by the Committees appointed by the opposing manufacturers and the Union. The Committees met at Robaon'a Rooms last evening, and continued their consideration of the tariff. Concessions were made on both sides, and eventually a statement of price's for all work was drawn up for future guidance. This statement is to be signed by both employers and operatives, and work will prcbably be resumed at all the factories on Monday. , ... The men haVe gained the demands with regard to the limitation of boy labour, alao as to the wages of weekly hands, and the remainder of the resolutions dealing with the rules and regulations of the factories. In the tariff of piece work, concessions haVe been made on both sides, but the men have gained an increase ot prices on tho bench. They will rocom mence work on Monday morning, but on account of tho altered circumstances, a good number of tne hands will be still out of work until things get into a more settled state. We understand that tho rates agreed on, and which we may add will be ratified at a joint meetingof the Committees on Monday, moan an increase on the cost of production, taking the lines all round, ef 6 or 7 per cent. The employers estimate the loss to the commerce of the city by the strike at £12,000—£4,000 of which was wages which tho men would have earned during the eight weeks of the strike.
