London, April 22.—The weekly return of the Bank of England shows the proportion of reserves to liabilities to be 41 per cent,, the total reserve in notes and bullion being £12,4000,000. Mandalat, April 21.—Reports from Bhamo state that a force of 200 British have been carrying on operations in the Kackin district (north of Bhamo)._ The stockades of the Kachines were carried by assault, and the rebels dispersed. The British troops have returned to Bhamo, with two offices wounded. The Proposed Pacific Cable. Lonion, April22.—The Candian Government have informed Sir Alexander Stuart that tho Dominion is prepared to grant a subsidy in equal proportion to that given by Australia for the construction and maintenance.of a cable to the colonies. Paris Exhibition. The French Chamber of Deputieshaye sanctioned the holding of an exhibition in Paris. The Bishopric of Melbourne. The meeting of the electors of a successor to Bishop Moorhouse, of Melbourne, takes place on the 4th May. Australian Fruit in England. The shipment of grapes by the John Elder from Victoria, has proved a failure from the same cause as before - namely, that of packing in sawdust. The remainder of the fruit by the same vessel is in splendid condition. The Anglo-Spanish Treaty. The negotiations with Spain regarding the tariff are still proceeding. It is known, however, that arrangements have been come to for a reduction of the duties on Spanish wince, but details cannot at present be ascertained.

Bradford Election. Mr Shaw Lefevre has been returned ior Bradford by a large majority.
