MASONIC.
An emergency meeting of Lodeo St. Andrew 418 S.C. was hold at the Masonic Hall Princes-street, on March 10 for the Surpose of receiving the Right Worshipful istrict Grand Master of tho Scottish Freemasons of New South Wales, Brother W. G. Sedgewick, the object of whose visit was to see the working of the Lodge. Thero was a very large attendance, including Bro. the Hon. Sir Frederiok Whitaker, Provincial Grand Master, S.C, Bro G. P. Pearce, Provincial Grand Master, J.C., and between 20 and 25 Paßt Masters, There were four candidates for the second degree, and two for the third degree, and the ceremonies were conducted by Bro. M. Niccol, substitute Provincial Grand Maßter. In tbe course of the evening a very handsome Past Master's jewel waa presented by Sir Frederiok Whitaker to Past Master Kaye in recognition of his services as Master of Lodge St, Andrew during 1884. The presentation was made in a neat and complimentary speech, to which Bro. Kaye made a suitable reply. Bro. Sedgwick expressed hia gratification on seeingsuchalarge assembly, and his great admiration of tho manner in which the service was conducted.
At Christchurch, a petition is being signed praying the Government to find employment for aIL married men who are idle.
