Forost Conservation, Charitable Aid, and Mr Vallo's Scheme.

Hamilton, this day.' At yostordny's meeting of the Woikato County Council, Captain Runciman road an interesting paper on "Forest Coneervation and Planting." He quoted from Mr Monk's pamphlet to show the enormous denudation of foresta now going on, and forcibly pointed out the advantages to be derived from the adoption of a system of tree-planting. He advocated tho reinstatement of the Forest Tree Planting Encouragement Act, which had been repealed without anything adequate being substituted for it. After discussion of the subject, the Council unanimously resolved to request the member for the district to urge the matter on the attention of the Government. The Council alao gave expression to an opinion d-sciaively adverse to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Bill. Members also spoke warmly in favour of Mr Voile's scheme, and a move will be made to resuscitate the Railway League. The other business was of no great importance. Gold Prospecting. The Taotaoroa reefs are to be thoroughly tested. Mr Horneybrook, of Te Aroha, has been employed to make a thorough examination of the ground,
