Smoky Chimneys.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, — Why is it that so many of tho chimneys in Auckland houses smoke so badly, especially upon the first lighting of the fire in the morning ? Can it be from faulty construction of the chimneys, and could not the builders, if thoy chose, give us chimnoya that would carry up the smoke clean away, instead of half of it having to bo let out of tho windows, after it has spoilt and dirtied everything in one's houso? Porhaps somo of your many readers may know of a style of construction which would give good drawing chimneys and ensure exemption from smoky houses. I am sure a good many would be glad to know of a good plan for such a Chimney.
