LOCAL INDUSTRIES.
Another important local industry has been established at View Road, Mount Eden, by Messrs Webb and Co., of Oak Houao, Hobson-street, in tho shape of a pianoforte manufactory. The first instrument turned out by them, and probably tho first manufactured in the city, is now on viow at their show-room, Hobson-stroet. The instrument is a lino iron-framed piano of extra large size, having a compass of seven and aquartor octaves. The case is black Mid gold, made from New Zealand woods, handsomely carved, and well-finished. The tone is powerful and good, with the beet felt pedal action, by which means a soft mellow note can be produced at will by tho manipulator of tho instrument. Messrs Webb und Co. ai-o well-known in Auckland, hawng been in business here for over 20 years,.und aro thoroughly acquainted with tho details of their profession, which they havo followed since 1847. It will be seen from 1 His that they are well qualifiod to carry on the work that they have begun, and we are mre that tho public will watch with inteiost tlioir praiseworthy attempt to establit-h a new industry in our midot. In the present day, when nearly every house possesses a piano of somo description, it becomes a matter of great importance if their manufacture can be successfully accomplished in Auckland.
