TEMPERANCE SERMONS.
In responßO to a request from tho Band of Hope Union, sermons on thosubjoctof temperance were yesterday preached in many of the city and suburban churches. At Berosford-etreot Congregational Church, the Key. Mr Robertson took for his text tho words, " Do not sin against the child," contained in Genesis, 42nd chapter, 22nd vorso. In tho courso of a strong appeal that adults should give up the uso ofstronp drink for tho sake of setting an example to their children, and to tho children of others, the rov. gentleman furnished many good argumonts showing how the sins of the drunkard aro visited upon tho little ones, and tho awful sorrows which children fool and pass through because of the evil of strong drink Ho urged that ovorybody was concerned in this matter, and callod upon all to do whatever lay in their power tostop this great wrong. At St. James's Presbyterian Church, tho pastor, Rev. R. F. Macnicoi, preached from 2nd Poter I, 5-7, in the courso of which he urged tho young to take a firm Btand on the temperance principle. Mr P. Mackay, superintendent of the Sunday-school, and Mr Kerr alßo gave suitable exhortatory addresses St. David's Sunday scholars were addressed in vigorous style by Mr Badger and others on the subject of tempeiance, anecdotes illustrative of the dangers of drink being interspersed. In the course of the morning service at the Baptist Tabernacle, Mr T. Spurgeon made referenco to the drink Suestion ; and at Newton Congregational hureh Mr T. Adams preached on the subject " Protect the children." At the Free Methodist Church, Pitt and Vincent-streets, Rev. C. Worboys preached from Psalm viii., 2, pointing out the dangers of tho drinking customs of this ago, and tho need to shield the young from temptation. Tho evening sermon at Alexandrastreet Methodist Church was dovotod to temperance, Roy. Mr Smith making a vigorous appeal on tho side of order and sobriety. Rev. S. Macfnrlano pieachod a temperance sermon at Mt. Edon Methodist Church, and Bpecial addreseos on tho subject wero also delivered to tho children attending Arch Hill Wosleyan School and elsewhere.
