THE RUAPEHU AGROUND.

(IIV TKLKORAPH—PRKHS ASSOCIATION.)

Wellington, this day. Tun steamship Ruapehu in coming up the harbour kept too close to the southern shoro ond stuck in tho mud. Sho is expected to float off this evening.

Tho purchasers of the wreck of the Thomas Russell, lying at Orete Point - Messrs Bailey and Hawkswood—intend to commence operations on that vessel very shortly. Failing satisfactory arrangements for the charter of a vessel, Mr Bailey intends to leave for the wreck by the steamer Suva on Tuesday next. He will take with him several workmen, so as to be able without delay to perform what work is requisite. If there snould be any serious uncertainty as to the possibility of floating the vessel to Auckland, it will not be attempted, but all her machinery and other valuable properties will be removed and forwarded here as occasion offers. Thore seems to bo no fear of the vessol breaking up unless unusually heavy weather sets in, and if work is pushed on vigorously the speculation may prove a very profitable one.

Martin Kerwick, baker, Auckland, filed a petition in bankruptcy to-day.
