Russia Apologises for the Attack,

Lokdon, April 9,

In tho Houso of Commons to-day Mr Gladstone mado n statement regarding tho outbreak of hostilities on the Afghans frontier. Tho Premier stated that information had icached tho Government that the Afghans gave no provocation for the attack made upon them by the Russian Gonoral Komaroff. He added that the British Cabinet had demanded explanations from the Russian Government as to tho occurronce.

St. Petersburg, April 9.

M. Giers, Minister of Foreign Affairs, waited on tho British Ambassador last owning, and expressed the Czar's hope that the Russo-Afghan incident would not have tho effect of stopping the parleying which was proceeding between England anil Russia on the frontier question.

Mr Gier. added that the Russian officers in Central Asia were unaware of the agreement arrived at between England and Russia on the 13th ult., that, no advance should tako placo on either side in Afghanistan, pending the negotiations on the frontier question.
