NewtonI.—Mr C. DoLautour announces his candidature for this district in opposition to Mr Poacock. Tho irreprossible Garrard is still in the held. The last named candidate is to address tho electors in Ponsonby Hall to-morrow (Wednesday) evening.

Waitkmata.—All attempts to induco an Opposition candidate to take the field against Mr VV. J. Hurst have so far failed, and that gentleman seems likely to have a " walk over."

Bay ok Islands.—Mr Gannon's address to the elootors of this district is issued. Mr Hobbs will address the electors of Russell on Saturday night. He ia meeting with strong support, and will poll heavily. Fkanklin North.—Mr Buckland addressed a meeting of electors at Pakuranga on Saturday last, and received a unanimous voto of coulidonco. Last night, Major Harris spoke at l'apakura Hall, when there were about 100 electors present, Mr J. B. Young presiding. After the candidate had explained his views, ho was asked several questions, to which he gave satisfactory replies. The meeting then unanimously passed him a vote of thanks for past services, and of confidence in him for the future.

City Noktu.—On account of tho teetotal proclivities of Mr Joseph Newman, the accepted Government candidate for City North, it is on tho cards that Mr H. Mellhone, President of tho Licensed Victuallers' Association, will bo brought out in opposition to him.

PaßN'hll, —Wo are informed that Mr F. G. Clayton has resolved not to contest this seat against the former member, Mr Moss.

Wait A. —Our own correspondent at Raglan telegraphs:—"Mr Lakeopenod the Waipa electiou campaign here last night, when tie was favoured with a very successful meeting, tho attendance being large. He oxpressed himself in favour of tho native policy of tho prosent Govornmont, and would support Mr Bryce in tho pre-emptive right, but considered that tho exercise of tho right should bo carefully watched. On tho question of education, he was in favour of the free and secular systotn up to the fourth standard ; education over that to bo selfsupporting. As to tho trunk line of railway, he would support either lino—by Stratford or ilarton. He thought that North Islaud members should go to Wellington combined on this matter. Ho did not bolievo in Sir Julius Vugel. He considered that Mr F. A. Whitaker, having got out of accord with his constituents! ncted becomingly in withdrawing from tho contest. At tho conclusion of his epeecb, tho candidate, in reply to questions, Htntod that he would be in favour of a railway or any other projoct for the benefit of Raglan District. He was in favour of the property tax as against tho income tax, and did not believe in federation. A message was posted up here yesterday from Major .1 ackson to the effect that ho was adopted as tho Government candidate/

ItODKEYi—Our own correspondent wires from Aratapu :—"Mr Moat addressed the electors hero last night. There was a largo attendance, and great interest was shown. A vote of thanks was curried, as most of his supporters did not think it fair to give a vote of coulideneo until Mr Wilson, the other candidate, had been heard. It is believed hero that tho Government supporters will bo elected."
