MEETING OF GAVIN WEIR'S CREDITORS.
An adjourned meeting of the creditorsof Gavin Weir, described'as a tobacconist, was hold at the Official Assignee's office at two o'clock this morning. The Official Assignee presided, and thore were algo present:—The debtor and his wife, Messrs Button, Brassoy, George, nnd Oliphant, solicitors; Mr Gjblin represented the Bank of New Zealand. . Mr Brassoy, on behalf of tho dobtpr stated tliat his cliont had kout no books, and he could not supply the statoment he (Mr Brassoy) wag prepared to hand in the amended statement, provided tho dreditora did not agree to aoceiit the 2a 6d in the & previously offered. Mr Button intimated that he was prosent on behalf of Mrs Weir, and he had tolophonod for deeds etc. He mentioned that the debtor's interest in tho British Hotel was only a con--1 Mr "Braa*oy said in reply to Mr George that ha had no books oc receipts. Tho debtor had voUfl foclishly. He admitted that himself, but that did not mend matters. In reply to Mr Giblin Mr Brasaey said the amended statoment had not beon filed becauso thore was nothing n«w with the exception of tho insortjon of debtor's reversionary interest in thotfriUsh Hotel, end the insertion of three other croditQjM, If tho creditors d)d not apoipt the •>.% Cd in the J3 ho would file the statement. Mr Oliphant said he had heard that the debtor i had endeavoured to l also £400 on the contingent reversion of interc 8i in the hotel. Mr Button said tliat if the 2s Cd was acceptod Mrs Weir would have to find tho money. She would then require tho debtor to hand over to her azain his contingent revorsion of interest. Mr George asked the debtor regarding a lonn debtor had endeavoured to raise through him (MrUeorge). tie wished to kp°W what JPTO: perty ho had then propoaed to give as security. The debtor told Mr Gcoigp to "go and find out," and was reproved for his discourteous conduct by the Chaiman and by Mr Brassey The debtor then answered the question. Ho had tried to borrow tho money on alease which ho subsequently *o»nd was involved MrßuUon aifin produced Sirs Wcirsmarrlage settlement, entitling Weir tp one-half the incomo.of the British Hptpl, pwyfdpd hpsur-■-In repty toY George, Mrs Weir stated that the debtor had drawn £l.Slfi in two.-and-a-half years of her money, and out of that money he had paid the household debts. Mr George said, on behalf of his client, he WMr Button said he would not recommond his client to glvo more than 'la (id iii tho pound, and then only on condition thai debtov handad over the reversionary interest in the hotel. Mrs Weir said she would not give a penny m Mr George: And hand ovor tho reversionary lnt-srest to the estate. Mr Button i /will not recommond my client to do that.
