Sydney, March 20. BINCG Hanlan's arrival he has been feted and lionised, but as yet no match has been mado, nor is it probable, until after he has given his exhibitions of rowing in the various colonies. He seems much pleased with his reception and treatment.
Edward Williams, against whom the strongest caso existod, was found guilty of rape in connection with the Wooloomooloo outrage, and sentenced to death. The prisoner ovinced little emotion when the senteneo was prononnced. Tho other prisoners similarly charged were liberated in their own recognisances, to come up to trial whon called upon. Very good entries havo been received for the Autumn Race Meeting. Commotion is backed for a lot of money to win the Gold Cup. Le Grand and Sardonyx have also received some support. Very little rain has fallen, but the weather is cooler. Pastoralists are experiencing one of the worst seasons in New South Wales.
Nothing has yet been done towards filling up the vacancy in the Cabinet. Some progress has been made with the estimates in the Assembly, and a desire ie shown for retrenchment.
Damages of five hundred pounds have been given against Dr. Allan Campbell, of Yass, in an action for unskilful treatment ot a child.
Tho wanhips Nelson, Diamond, and Miranda are now in port.

Very heavy rain has fallen at Cooktown during the last few days, and the country is flooded.
Government intend to proceed at onco with tho erection of public offices.

Tho death of Dr. James Pounds, for many years medical officer of Pentridge Stockade, is announced.
The operative bootmakers have passed a resolution against any alteration in the tariff in the direction of ad valorem duties.
Dr. Gilchrist has sovorod his connection with the Presbyterian Church of Victoria.
Tho doath 1h announced of Philip Pitt, for eighty years o colonist of Tasmania. Ho came to Port Philip with Governors Collins and Fawkner in ISO 3, and was the oldest surviving settler in Tasmania but one.

Parliament is .dissolved. The writs will be issued in throe batches. Nominations for the first batch are fixed for April 2nd, and the polling for April Sth. Owing to tho dulness in the building trade, tho masters havo given notice of a reduction of wages, which their employees will not accept.
