Te Aroha, Saturday,
A telegraph station is being erected at Waiorongomai. The instruments are now coming up the river in the Patiki. An operator is coming from Wellington. A sale of surburban residence sites between the two townships takes place on December oth, free of rent for 19 years. It is expected to realise good prices.
Te Aroha Races.
The Spring Meeting of the To Aroha Jockey Club i* a great success. Auckland visitors who have recently been here would not credit the great number of people who have arrived, Whitaker-street being thronged from end to end, presenting somewhat the appearance of Queen-street, Auckland. The punt has been crowded all the morning with people crossing the river. The racecourse is one of the prettiest in the colony as regards surrounding scenery, and is soon to be put in first-class order.

William Birch, agumdiggor from Kerr keri, was arrested for horse-stealing on Saturday night, on board the Mariner on his way to Auckland. Carl's Kaikohe township sold at the rate of from £24 to £62 an acre. This land formerly belonged to Sidney Taiwhanga, and is in the midst of first-class agricultural land.

A youth named William Good was committed for trial to-day on the charge of maiming a bullock belonging to Michael McMfthon,of Tapu,

The Hon. Mr Rolleston left this morning for Wairavapa district to inspect land in tho 70-milo bush, which will be placed in tho market during the summer.
Christcuukch, this day.
A man named John Booth, gardener, residing in Yaldhurst, was found in bed with his throat cut last night. On the table was a paper on which was written :— "I are mad, John Booth." Deceased had been drinking heavily lately.
Dunedin, Saturday. Suicide.
Mr Johnson, lately postmaster in a country district, suicided by strychnine this morning. At the inquest on Wm. Johnston, who committed suicide by taking strychnine, tho evidence showed that deceased was in a vory depressed state of mind consequent on his inability to obtain employment. Ho was indebted to tho Post-ofhco Department £2 15s for stamps, &c, and could not pay tho amount. ' A vordict of "suicido by strychnine while temporarily insane" was returned.
Mr Geo. Chappol, who loaves the Union Company's service to tako charge of the Waitaki, was entertained at a dinner on Saturday night by his fellow employe's. Mr Peter Sherwin, for mnny yoars a prominent figuro in municipal politics, died suddenly to-day.
