J. F. Cahill, Victoria-street, desires to thank tho North British Insurance Company for the promptness with which they have settled all claims.—[Advt.] Superintendent Thomson, of the Police Force, is at present on a tour of inspection of stations in the Kaipara district. He is expected to return to town to-morrow evening. The remains of the late Mr F. J. Wardell wore interred today. The' deceased was a member of the Masonic fraternity, and a number of brethren attended tho funeral. It Is stated in mining circles that there is another Big Pump difficulty looming. Tho Deep Lovol Cross directors threaten to discontinue pumping if tho contributions from the mines benefitted by the operation of the Pump are not paid with greater regularity. A man, whoso name was not given, called at the Hospital to-day, suffering from a flesh wound caused by a sheet of galvanized iron falling on his band. The injury, which was dressed by one of the nurses, was not of a very serious nature. The Waiheke case was not concluded when we went to press. The native witnesses were in course of examination. Tho charge of larceny against James Thomas Booth, and of perjury against John C. Mac'Cormick, will be taken on Monday next. Both defendants wore admitted to bail. Our weekly market price list, which appears elsewhere, contains several important alterations. In the flour market it may be observed that in superfine and household a reduction of 10s per ton has been made, while both bran and sharps are quoted at £5 10s per ton. Palings are but los per 1,000, and Hobart rails have advanced _l per 1,000 since last quotations. Tbe gum market continues dull, with prices unaltered. Receipts for the month to date amount to 470 | tons. In the hay and corn market local maize has advanced, and we quote from fis to 3s 3d per bushel, oats from 2s 4d to 2s Bd, and maize from 3s 9tl to 4s. Butter and eggs remain at last week's rates.
