BLUE RIBBON ARMY.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, -Will you kindly allow mo to call tho attention of all Christian people in Auckland to the fact that at a large and enthu« siastlc meeting held last evening in the Albert-street Temperance Hall a branch of the Blue Ribbon Army, or Gospel Temperance Mission, was formed? The objects cf the Mission are to rescne men from tbe drink-curse, or to save them from its meshes, and to endeavour to lead them 'to the Cross of Christ. The pledge of membership is that of total abstinence from all intoxicants as beverages, and the discountenancing of their use in the community. The badge of membership is a blue ribbon, vide Numbers c, 15, v. 38,39, The movement is entirely unsectarian, ministers of all denominations who will take our pledge and co-operate with us being thereby constituted members of our Central Committee. The rate of subscription is optional, although it is expected that all joining our ranks will subscribe, and that those who are able will do so liberally. Any information on the subject may be obtained on application to the undersigned or to the editor of the "Temperance Reformer," by either of whom, pending tlie appointment of a treasurer, subscriptions \yill be thankfully received and promptly acknowledged. I shall also be glad to receive the names of any ministers of the Gospel who, oil the term i above-named, are willing to join our ranks. Thanking you for your courtesy, I dm, &c,
SAMUEL MACFAjtLANE, Hobson-street, April 9, 1883. t
