A New Year entertaiimeut was given Jast evening in the District Hali, Kpsom, aud very fairly attended. Yonge ; wigißal poem, "The New Year," Mr Blackznan ; "Star upon Star,'' gentleman amateur; " Westward Ho !" (encored), Mr A. Coatesj '*' The Little Farm " (comic), Mr C. Taylor; Bret HartcV'Talo of a Pony," Mr Chamber*; "A Bird iv Han.i," Mr Garland; vocal duet, " . i»t, 'tis Music Ste»ling," Mr and Mi.»s McAlpine ; " The St»ry of a .flower" (original), Mr lilacktnau; "Stirrup Cup" (encored), Mr U. Taylor; "Shells of the Oc»an" (.noored), Miss Bishop; "Maid of A'-hena." gentleman amateur ; ventriloquism, Mr T. Taylor; Thatcher's "Parody on Captain Pan son," by Mr a. Coates, J'be whole concluded with the iVaiional Anthem. S-'overal of the productions were sun-j with more than average merit, especially "I'm King of the Soa," and the boautitul duet?, "Flow On,'1 ky the ittLses Bishop, " List 'tis Mu>ic Swalint;" by a youDg lady and her brother, " Sheila of the Ocean,' and several others which weie generously applaudtd. The accompaniments were ptayad by Misa Kate Donovan, with nice effect, and occasionally with brilliancy. Mr Chambers evidenced, much appreciative talent in his able recitations fiom the work« ol two living American poets (Holmes and Brat Harte). The hall was cleared for dancing at 10.30, and this active physical exercise was kept up with keen delight until the bcraking in of the new diy. Mr Garland, an adept in the art, acted with efficiency as Master of Coremoniei, Before the dancing Mr Lawry moreil a vot« of thanks to tha ladies and gentlemen who had given their services, which was carried by acclamation.
