MINING NEWS.

(From the " Cobomahdel Mail.")

Kapanga. — Operations from the low level are now in full swing, and in comebuence of the detp sinking having increased the water, the coal consumption has in. creased double to what it was iast year, aud now averages over 120 tons per month, and is still increasing. The heavy cartage motion by shipping this coal renders It necessary that some substantial improvement Ishould be effected to the main road, which from King's Bridge is narrow, and cut into deep ruts. During a portion of last winter this company bad to pay double for coal carriage on account of the dreadful condition of the read. It is to be hoped that during the comiig summer the Council will be in a position to widen, and permanently improve the road to this most important mine.

Success.—Good gold was seen in stone broken out during the week, which gives saiisfactoiy assurance for the future,

10.iA.--Good progress is being made with this con'ract, as might have been expected, considering the able hands who undertook it, _ The entire work will probably be finished three weeks before the expiration of contract time.

Matawal— A number of persons have recently visited Vaughan and Vizard's claim, and are unanimous in expressing favourable opinions of the same.

Vizard's Castle Hock. — Vizard has proved the claim to bs payable; the ground has been opened up ready for stoping, and there is about 30 tons of quartz in the pad. dock waiting transmission to the battery,

Homeward Bound.—lt is gratifying to see works resumed -Dn this valuable property As most of the dead work is now complete, shareholders have a prospect of a flourishing summer. On Thursday the workmen holed through from the main level to the winze. It was not thought that the face of the level was far enough advanced to cut the winze, and stoping operations will contequently be carried ou earlier than anticipated, while the main drive can now bo continued with the lode in hand. '
