Encounter Between Mr Simonsen and a Wellington Inpressario.
WELLINGTON, this day. Mn K. W. Carey has purchased from Ut J. C. Williamson the sole right to perform Messrs Gilbert and Sullivan's new opera, " The Pirates of Penzance," in New Zealand, and intends to produce it for the first time at tho Theatre Royal, Wellington, on the 27tb inst., thereafter visiting Auckland after Wellington, and then visit Other towns of the colony. The prico paid for the copyright was £500, and tho dresses, scenery, &c, formed ou models from the Opera Cotnique, London, will involve an expenditure of at least nn equal buib, To produce the piece Carey has engaged most of the chorus-singers, leading violinist, and pianist from Simonsen's Opera Troupe. Riccardi wants £25 a week. Simonsen is so enraged nt Carey taking his men that a scone occurred oo the steamer leaving. Simonsen struck Carey and blackened Charley Whoightraau's eye.
