NORTH ROAD WESLEYAN SOIREE.

A koirkk was held last evening in the New % North Road Wesleyan chapel, which proved a great success. The tea-tables were boun-1 tifully spread with good things. The trays were provided by Mr CasaeJ, Mes- J dames Newbold, Ulphert, Burton, Bailey, Otway, and Miss Hirst. At the close of the liberal repast, Mr Ward was called to the chair, and having prefaced ths proceedings with pleasant words called upon Mr G. A. Gribbin to read the report, which gave a clear and well-written sketch of the progress of the proceedings of the past year and which was of a very en> couraging character. The statistics of the . school were :—Teachers, 8. Scholars on ' roll: boys, 68; fnrls, 49; total, 117. Average attendance : beys, 46, girls, 32. Superintendent, Joseph Burton ; treasurer, * J. K. Newbold; librarian, Win. Hardy; secretary, Mr G. A. Gribbiu. The balance sheet showed (May to Dec.) income from various sources, including 18s 5d from previous accounts. Income : proceeds of anniversary, £16 10s lOd; collected for school festival, £65s sd; provisions, £5 lls; Sunday school fund entertainment,£2 lOd ; proceeds of box, £11 4s 3d. Total, £37 5s : 8d; expenses in reward and library books, advertising, and necessary sundries, £37 6d; leaving a credit balance of 53 2d ; to which was added £3 17s, being the collections at the anniversary services. The subsequent hour was passed in harmony and thought. The choir sang the opening hymn of praise. Mr John Ryan then rendered a sacred song. Rev. Wm. Morley gave an excellent address, with special reference to their useful and increasing library. , Miss Hirst was next called upon, nncl sang with tenderness and feeling, " While the Day is Going," and "The Upward Path of Duty." Mr Casael made a few remarks on the subject of religious duty. Key. Mr Isitt spoke at some length and with much satisfaction on tbc work in which they were engaged in connection with the church : and Sunday-school. The choir followed with " Jesus Loves the Children." At the conclusion votes of thanks, on the motion of Mr Burton, seconded by Mr Field, were accorded by acclamation to the chairman, singers, and speakers. Mr Trigg presided ( at the harmonium. The benediction was , pronounced and the meeting terminated.
