The Licensing Court at Tauranga has granted a new license to Mr VV. H.Bennett, a geatleman well know n throughout New Zealand. It will be a first-class hotel, named the Star.

The Harbour Board dredge was successfully launched and named the Ruapahu. Mr Ballance, chairman of the Board, in the courseof his remarks.coniidently anticipated that after 6 months working of the dredge the river would have the Bame depth all the way up as it has now on the bar. The launch was a great success. A complimentary banquet was given to Mr Dathie last night and was attended by Rixty of the most influential citizeup. The Mayor was in the chair, and was supported by the Hon. the Native Minister, and Mr Ballance, M.H.R. Speeches lauditoiy of Mr Datliie's career as a business man, and also as a member of the various administrative bodies of Wanganui, were given by various speakers. Mr Dathie intends residing in Wellington, where his principal business is located.
