GIIAHAMSTOWN, this day, TE AROHA KOAD.

At a largely-attended meeting held in the Academy of Music last evening, tlie Mayorelect in the chair, the following resolution was carried, and the Chairman was instructed to forward the same to the Government.:—"Thai, the Government he re- | quested to authorise the Thames County Council to proceed at once with the construction of that portion of the T'liames-Te Aroliaroad between Hikulaia and Ohine- ' COUNTY uHAIRMANSHIP. There is considerable excitement over the new rush which has taken place between Kumara and Tercmaku river. The prospects average tyro grains to the dish, and it is supposed the old Lamplough lead has been found. The prospectors have applied to the warden for double area, aud a large number of claims have been pegged oft. The ground will be thoroughly prospected in a week. Meanwhile it is inadvisable for miners to leave for the scene of discovery. Should the supposition of the lead prove correct, the probable extent of thogoldlielda will be seven miles.

The steamer Hawea, which arrived from Picton and Nelson this evening, reports that shortly after leavius? the former poi t a boat was seen floating bottom up, and two men clinging to it.
