Dargaville.
We have had the Rev Fatlier O'Hara for the past week paying his usual periodical visit, and if we may judge by the large congregation which attended his church last Sunday, b,e must be greatly appreciated. There js a movement on foot for building a Catholio Church aud maiutainiug a clergyman here, but in the meantime the school committee kindly granted the use of the school-room, iv which the service* of the Roman Catholic Church are occasionally held. On Sunday last the large room was crowded, aud after service two Maori weddings took place, and five European and eleven Maori children were christened. To-day (Thursday) (he rev. gentleman has just returned from Kailtq (the name of the Maori settlement near this township) whorehe baptized fourteen children, and on next Sunday he \s to- marry four inOro Maoii couples. Several christenings, also are to take place, so that Father O'Hara will have a good report to give on his return to town. It is worthy of note that whilje tho Roman Catholic cowaiunitv is full, of energy, the Church .of England congregation languishes,, and although they have-on this' township the prettiest chwcfc upijtu of Auckland, ..the atteiiiuance ir, merely nomnal. ■' We learn on inquiry t^at there is an Anglican clergymati sU»'', O ned in the district, but he has • a'ttejwjr j to perform service at this church oa]v> twice siuce the commencement of ita v ;. ir an d we could not learn how \ov» >' jb : sin ' c , a Maori service was held in Jt, '^ lO ughit is said the Maoris subs C «becl K ndson f e , y towar <]s its erection. lv viev o f the above your readers will not be s- jr p rised t0 learu that the Catholic committee has made a bona fide otter tf> purchase the site and buildiß? belongr Dg t0 the Anglicans.- (Correspond6U», March4th. 1
