Punishment of the Rebellious Afghans. LONDON.

Tho British are complete masters of Cabul. A very heavy fine has been imposed on the Afghans for their outrage ou the British Embassy. Martial law has been proclaimed in Cabul, and the citadel will be destroyed shortly. Moods in Spain. LONDON. October IG. Great iloods have occurred in Spain, by which three hundred persons were drowned. Marquis of Salisbury on tne Eastern Question. LONDON. October 18. Earl Salisbury has been entertained at a banquet at Manchester. He said the Government had placed Turkey in such a position as would restrain Russian aggression and if Turkey failed in that, Austria was now in a position to do it, Germany approving aud co-operating in the measures that have been taken. Commercial. The corn market is firm, with an upward tendency. Australian wheat is selling at 61s to 63s per 49Glbs, according to quality.
Australian wheat is selling ex ship Salisbury at COs per 4801bs. The English brandy market has advanced. The tin market is still c xcited, and quota tions fluctuate from day to day. The present rate is £92 to £93. Tallow in active demand at full rates. At a public sale of Australia nearly all the tallow offered was disposed of at the following rates : Mutton, inferior, 32s to 32s 6d ; medium, 343 to 35s ; finest, 35s to 3Gs Gel. Beef, inferior, 31s to 32s Gd ; medium, 33s to 34s ; iinsst. 34s 9d to 355. LONDON. October 18. Riso in Ouxrants. Currants have advanced from a shilling to three shillings. Advance in Brandy. Brandy has advanced eighteenpence, owing to the damage caused by frost in the crop in tho Giraud district. Rum has advanced threepence a gallon.
