POLICE COURT.—This Day.
(Before R. C. Barstow, Esq., K.M.) WINDOW SMASHING. Richard Ciiliill, licensed porter, was cliai'gcd with smashing three panes of glass, in tlie house of Susan Wetherell, of Mills Lane, on the 2Sth inst,—Prisoner pleaded drunkenness as an excuse. He put his list through tho glaas.—Miss WetheroU deposed to the amount nf damage, 3s.—Fined 5a and costs for drunkenness, and 10s and the amount of damage, or seven days in Mount Eden. NEGLECTING CHILDREN. Stephen Litt, described :is a master mariner, was brought up oh warrant, charged with failing to contribute towards the support of his four children in the Industrial Home.—Litt. had previously resided in Onelmnga, but went to England, and left his wife and family in distress, The poor woman died in the Provincial Hospital, leaving her four little ones to the world.— On being asked why he did not obey the summons served upon him, he replied that he was ashamed to appear in Court. He . had money in the Savings Bank and would contribute 20s a week, and pay 50s (if tho arrears.—The Court made an order accorddingly. ATTEMPT TO JIHKHER, Herman Helemers was charged with committing a murderous assault upon Theodore Burns at the Great Barrier Island on the 18th inst.— On the application of Mr Pnrdy the case was remanded until to-morrow. FOOLISH CONDUCT. Lawrence H. Jennings, a young man, pleaded guilty to refusing to give up his railway ticket at the Newmarket station on the ISth inst.—Defendant said he was sorry, but he was very drunk, or lie should not have been so foolish. —Fined 20s, costs 11s.
