CHRISTCIIURCH this day. THE football match yestenly between Wellington and Otago was woiby Wellington by one try to nothing. Attttirtilig, the Otago men were the favourites and it was generally thought they would hvc an easy victory. Tho lirst half-hour's lay was all in favour of Otago. After that Wellington played well together and gave their opponents a lot of trouble. Backly played a grand game throughout He itulc a brilliant run and got a touchdown i the second spell, and towards tho end o the match Fuss prevented a draw by smasly collaring Murray close to the goal line ad spoiliug a touchdown. There was a hire number of spectators, and the cxcitciucntit times was intense. After the first spell Wellington played a very hard through gate and gave the Otago men a lot of trouble The latter also played well and made things very lively towards the close, Murra especially beiu'' in fine form. At the lose of the match Murray and Bayly wrc heartily cheered by the spectators, the liter being carried off the ground on tho aoulders of his comrades, who ono and all gave him first credit of winning the match The match on Thursday i between Christehurch and Wellington, ad has now become doubly interesting, andisurc to attract a good deal of attention aiongst the football community. Mr R. J. Pearsou, well-knowntOxford, was found dead this morning ncr Carlon. He had apparently been throw from his horse, and died from exposure.
