TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CENTRAL ELECTION COMMITTEE.

(Per favour the Editor STAR.) Gentlemen,— I have resided for nearly forty years in this province, and was one of the three first elected representatives under free institutions initiated by Sir George Grey. I own no country land, have no axe to grind, have always avoided politics as I would the devil, aud have never written a letter upou political affairs until now. But last session was one straw too many for me, aud now you can take my opinions at ttheirltrue worth. The first Napoleon used to say " scrape a Russian and you will find a Tartar." So when some of: our would-be representatives come under your knife, scrape them well, refer hack to what they have beeu, and if under the Bcraping process you find any sicn of a Hand grab, put him on one side. . He has a perfect right to look after his own interests in private life, but you would be fools to ■select Mm, for should he have enough land to satisfy himself he must needs havo a fellow-feeling for others of the same greed. Again, when a caudidate refuses to follow a leader of knowledge and experience, and one moreover perfectly disinterested except for the general good, be you sure that candidate is saturated with a conceit which will never dry up,—put him on one side also. But if you cau find such men as our present Preirier or the Hon. W, Svvauson, con•f'ratulate yourselves, for they are the hind of men we want. I .take it \ the .Bain jiledge you will require of all candidates is ghat they will subordinate their, opinions. iapon any question to that of their constituents or resign at once. I could write much more on this strain, hut the above •will suffice now, for nietfcinjo I hear some; jpi our late members ask, " Do you expect' every Virtue ■ under- the sun for p t£2Oo--a-month ? if not, we are ready to serwi ypu a<_.mv —lam, &c, i: _ 3. C. S. ___■ '' - . .'"■'.-".
