THE HONORARIUM.
To the Editor: Sir,—Having seen that Messrs Tole and Hobbs intend devotinga portion of their honorarium to charities in their respective districts, I think that the member for Waitemata will do the same. For some time past Mr Macfarlane has devoted a certain sum to replenishing our country libraries. The Titirangi district library has certainly benefited considerably by his liberality, but as we have now a fair number of books (in my opinion sufficient for the few settlers that reside near enough to obtain them), I would suggst that Mr Macfarlane (presuming that that gentleman intends to devote a portion of his honorarium to this district) would help its in obtaining a little metal for our main road, which is now in a deplorable condition for want of the same. The railway now runs across it, and metal could be brought by rail at very little cost, or perhaps Mr Macfarlane would use his influence with the railway authorities to carry it free of charge. If this could be done lam sure the settlors would give a little time and lay it. Hoping that the member for Waitemata will excuse my presumption, and you, Mr Editor, the space in your useful paper, I am, etc, Titirangi.
