DEVONPORT HALL.
The fourth anniversary ball of tho 1.0.0. F., M.U., Dovonport Lodge, took place last evening at the above hall, which was handsomly decorated for the occasion with ferns and evergreens, etc., and inscriptions in Latin and English to the effect that " Over land and sea the memory of old acquaintances should, not be forgotten." The walls were also tastefully ornamented with the Hags of all nations, conspicuous amongst was tho Tricolor of France and tho Uniou Jack of England. Altogether the hall presented a gay and animated scene, and hundreds of young couples threw themselves into the spirit of the dance with all tho enthusiasm that the scene inspired. The band of the .Artillery. Company, or at least a certain portion of it, played a capital selection ot dance music, under the direction of the painstaking leader. Mr W. H. Travarth officiated as M.U., and the ball was kept merrily rolling till past four m the morning. An excellent, repast was prepared by the members of the lodge, and superintended by Mrs Finch, Mrs Wells, and Mr Keynohk A special steamer then conveyed the visitors back to Auckland, when they subsequently returned to their respective homes well satisfied with the treat that had been afforded them.
