THE MARSDON ELECTION.
Meetings at Whangarei Heads, Parua Bay, and Mangawai, passed unanimous votes of confidence in Captain Colbeck. He addresses Whangarei to-morrow. ,

COL. TRIMBLE AT WAITARA."
Colonel Trimble addressed the electors here last night. About 200 were present. He delivered an exhaustive speech and reviewed the whole action of the. Grey Government. .He severely censured them for the manner in which they conductedNativo affairs. Hb strongly advocated the making of good metal roads throughout the country, more especially through the disturbed districts, and the immediate survey and occupation of Waimate Plaius. He spoke strongly in favour of education. A hearty vote of confidence and a pledge to support him in the coming election was carried unanimously.
TIMARU, Thursday,
Mr John Studholme received a vote of confidence from a crowded meeting at Pleasant Point last night.
WELLINGTON, Thursday.
Mr C. O'Neil, C.E., has consented to stand for the Wellington country district on the Liberal ticket.
DUiNEDIN, Thursday. Mr Clayton addressed the electors at j Blueskin on Tuesday night. He declared himself an independent member and securalist, in favor of manhood suffrage and a Liberal goldfields member. A requisition is being signed in favor of J. Fulton, R.M., asking him to stand for Taieri. He will probably consent and resign his R.M.ship. Captain Baldwin has just returned from Melbourne and will contest the Caversham or Kaikora. The Dunedin candidates arc holding back as long as possible from addressing the electors. This is done in order to economise expense. Captain McKenzie is now actively canvassing the Waikai district, and there is no sign of opposition to him at present. This day. The " Otago Daily Times " strongly denounces Mr Stout for his disingenuousness at the Morrison Hall nice ting. The "Times" publishes a telegram from Mr Wliitakcr contradicting Mr Stout's assertion ro the railway. Tho "Times " says it is reported on good authority that Mr Conyers is likely to bp removed to Dunedin, he having represented to tho Government that the work for which he -was specially removed to Christchurch is completed. Mr Simpson has] withdrawn from tho Roslyn contest. It is expected that Mr Cuttcn will rctiro from Taieri hi favour of James Fulton and contest Caversham or City.
MARTON, tliis day. Mr Quinn, formerly secretary to the Foresters, was brought up chargeu at suit of the Ancient Order of Foresters with larceny. After a long hearing Quinn was committed for trial, bail being allowed.
OAMARU, this day.
The nomination of members for this district takes place on 30th August and the poll on sth September,
WESTPORT, this day. THE LIBERAL CANDIDATES. The Liberal Association Delegates held a great meeting, and received a unanimous vote at Anderson's and Charleston. Henry is working covertly, aud the election will be a struggle. Mr O'Connor is most likely to be the choice of the Liberal Association. Many of the oldest residents are disgusted that their names are not on the roll.
