PARNELL BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council Avas held at the ToAvn Clerks office last night. Present:—Councillors Milton, (Mayor-elect) Coleman Brackenbury, Wood, Brown, Winks, and Robinson.
The New Mayor.—Councillor Brackenbury moved that Councillor Coleman take the Chair, carried. Councillor Brackenbury Avent on to refer in very strong terms to the conduct of Councillors in staying aAvay from the special meeting on Wednesday last, aud so preventing the induction of the new Mayor on the day appointed by kiAV. He had been told that absence of a quorum Avas not Avholly unintentional, and if this AA-ere true he considered that a most umvarrantable. insult had been offered not only the Mayor, but the Avhole of the Burgesses. Councillor Melton had been duly elected Mayor, and if they were not Avilling to pay proper respect to him they should at least he respectful to the Burgesses and the office or Mayor. Councillor Robinson objected to Councillor Brackenbury's strictures on the Council. There Avere very good reasons Avhy there Avas no quorum. Councillor Winks agreed Avith the foregoing speaker. For his oavii part he could not attend on Wednesday last, and had no idea of offering any insult lothe neAV Mayor. Councillor Brackenbury suggested that they had better install the new Mayor at once. Councillor Coleman and others expressed opinions that a special meeting Avas necessary for the purpose. It was ultimately pro posed by Councillor Robinson ana carried, "That a special meeting tor the installation of the Mayor oe held at 7. 45 p.m on Friday, the :11th, Captain Brackenbury then recorded his objection to the Council proceeding to any other business before the Mayor was installed. ion that the Mayor of the past year did not go out of office until the accession of Ms successor. The majority were against Captain Brackenbury, who, when he saw thatitAvas determined to go on with the business, took his hat and left the Chamber. Resign ATI ON. —A communication was received from Councillor Mitford, resigning his seat ill the Borough Council. The consideration of filling Councillor Mitford's place was postponed until next nieet- * Endowment. —On the motion of Councillor Wood, it was resolved that Councillors Coleman and Melton should be deputed to select a block of Waste Land suitable for an endowment, and report to the Council. Signing Cheques.—Councillor Wood -vas appointed to sign cheques in the place ! of ex-Councillor Mitford. Parnell Public Schools.—A letter from the Secretary of the Board of Education AA'as read intimating that the Board could not grant the Educational reserve near Mechanics Bay for a site for a public school, as it Avas part of the Grammar Trust. The Secretary recommended the Council to apply to the neAvly formed Board of GoA Teruors. Councillor Wood moved, and it was carried, "That the General Purposes Committee should inspect the main road at the junction with the city boundary for the purpose of fixing the permanent levels. Accounts. —The Treasurer's accounts Avere passed for payment. The Council then adjourned.
