DESTRUCTIVE TORNADO IN lOWA,

SMALL POX IN SA.N FRANCISCO.

BURNING OF A STEAMER, WITH GREAT LOSS OP LIFE.

A fearful storm and flnod ravaged Central Towa on the 4th July. The Hs>.mlet of Rockdsilenear Dubuque was entirely sw e pt away by the overflow of the Catfish Ttiver. Thirty nine persons wore drowned. In Madflison and Warner counties fifteen persons were killed, and fearfull damage was done to live stock and crops It i* considered likely tbat many bodies were Rwept into the Missouri River. The railway wasswept away ' OJ miles.—At Burlington the tornado was experienced In one squall twenty nine buildings wern blown down. Two pernrns were killed and six freight c*ra blown into the river. The storm was felt severly at Omaha, Nebraska, buildings being blown down but no loss of life.

A negro riot occurred so Georgia. Several negroes and wMtes were killec".. The affair is raid to have arisen frcm the fact that coloured citizens had formed a volunteer military company and were parading the Btreets. Sections of the press rlenouuce the riot as the result of T>emccratic politicians trying s:are negroei from polls.

Small pox Is very prevalent In San Francisco. The SRwgrs me all flushed, and streets sprinkled with lime. Fourteen fresh cases were reported in one day The disease in rnt confined to any particular locality, but is a'l over ths city.
