EGGS BY WEIGHT.
(To the Editor of the Evening Stab.)., Sib,—The following paragraph, which appeared recently in a Dumbartool newspaper, might be of nse in .Auckland :—•' It has often been complained that the general dealer in disposing of certain descriptions of goods which are sold for instance at a certain amount per dozen, has his peculiar favourites on whom he bestows favours at the expense of the other customers, and in the sale of ho article is this more commonly felt than in that of eggs. There are always those who— by force of imagination 'or otherwise—contend that they get all the small eggs, whilst some other person always gets the large ones. Complaints of this kind, we believe, were often made by tbe members of the Co-operative stores, here, and so frequently were they urged that the committee determined to take some steps to remedy the grievance—whether real or imoginery. The result is that they have issued orders that in future, at all their stores here, eges shall be sold by weight. A dozen of fair-sized egss should weigh l^lbs. and in future that will be the standard ; and members are asked to see to it that they receive that amount of weight when they purchase that quantity, and so on, less or more in proportion. This innovation in the ege department of the grocery trade cannot but give satisfaction, if the standard is a fair one, and this laudable examnle of doing all they can to put down grumbling by the ceoperators is worthy of being imitated by others in the same trade."—Yours, &c, ■ D.C.J. .
