NAPIER.
(From our own Correspondent.)
This day.
Run Away With. A married couple visited the steamer Australia on Saturday, and the tender left the steamer without them, so they had to procceed to Auckland. They have eight children, the youngest under 12 months. The "orphans" are being looked after by friends. The s.s^jFairy has been got off the bank, but the damage done to her is estimated at between £500 and £700. She was uninsured. ■
The Land Dispute. The war between the repudiation and Heretaunga party waxes stronger. Information with respect to the land which Mr Russell wishes to purchase can now be got at the Government Land office. Maps of the land are also there on view. The objeot of doing this is to get others to compete with Mr Rusßell for possession of the property. People however cannot understand why Government officials are made to step out of their way in this matter when information regarding the public lands of the province are, comparatively speaking, kept eonoaaled. Business Qutefc. Business Is quiet. £700 Subscribed for Opera. The amount required, £700, for the Simmonßen troupe is almost all subscribed, although circulars have only been out a few days. The musical public are all on the, gui vive.
