r, The destructive floods at Poverty Bay, have . been improved by the Presbyterian, and Episcopalian clergymen resident there. The former took as his text, part of the 25th verse of the 7th chapter of >t. Matthew's gospel, "And the rain de_cended, and the floods came, and the winds blew." The latter preached from Job. 17, ver. 11, "My purposes are broken off." The Key Mr Root stated that ther. had not been such an inundation since 1853 ; and then the loss was comparatively small from there being so few crops, and but little stock. The destruction on the present occasion was very great, from its being harvest timo, as well as from the crogef being __iu6__ mare prolific than they were for many years past,
