POLICE COURT.—This Day.
(Before R. C. Barstow, Esq., R.M.) ATTICS TO LET. HcGuiness and Walker got drunk last night, And appeared this morn in a wretched plight. John Rus3ell was called, who got drank very slyly, And last on 'he list was Paddy O'Seilly. Thomas Walker, and James McGuineas were fined 5s and costs each, for being drunk last night. John O'Reilly was fined 10s, this being his second offence, and John Russell forfeited his bail. ASHORE. Thomas Rider was charged with being drunk and with, absenting himself without leave from the barque Lizzie Fox on the 23rd inst. Prisoner pleaded guilty. The Captain said he did not wish to press the charge, the prisoner was drunk. Fined 5s and costs for being drunk, and was discharged. The Captain paid the fine. BOLTING FROM MARY. Richard Niccol was brought up on warrant, charged with deserting his wife, Mary, leaving her behind at the Thames. Prisoner said he was guilty, but he left with the view of getting employment; he had written several times to Mary, but his letters were disregarded jj he thought he had a prospect of getting work in Auckland. Remanded to the Thames. BKEACH OF LICENSING ACT. Joseph Johnson, the reputed licensee of the Occidental Hotel, Vulcan Lane, was charged with a breach of clause 47. of the Licensing Act; by refusing to deliver up the said licence to the police, when requested to do so. SeJgeant Sanderson said he applied to defendant for his license, who informed him that it was not in his possession ; he then asked Mr Burton, who acknowledged to: holding it as there was a difference between him and Johnson which had not been settled.
